Dr. Immanuel is a doctor in the spotlight right now for reasons I don’t want to get into because that is not the point of this post. As people dug into her background they found several claims this doctor made which tie in a spiritual aspect to physical problems. I am writing this post to separate the truth from the lies and to ensure that seeds of doubt and confusion are not planted in your heart.
I first want to share that I am not an expert on the spiritual realm. I am however a child of God. I have read the entire Bible and I have complete peace about what I am going to share with you today.
Below is the quote that inspired this article, there are more quotes that explain more about this perspective but this summarizes her belief.
“Immanuel claims that medical issues like endometriosis, cysts, infertility, and impotence are caused by sex with “spirit husbands” and “spirit wives”—a phenomenon Immanuel describes essentially as witches and demons having sex with people in a dreamworld. ‘They are responsible for serious gynecological problems,’ Immanuel said. ‘We call them all kinds of names—endometriosis, we call them molar pregnancies, we call them fibroids, we call them cysts, but most of them are evil deposits from the spirit husband,’ Immanuel said of the medical issues in a 2013 sermon. ‘They are responsible for miscarriages, impotence—men that can’t get it up.’”https://www.thedailybeast.com/stella-immanuel-trumps-new-covid-doctor-believes-in-alien-dna-demon-sperm-and-hydroxychloroquine
I went to her site and found this article which explains her reasoning behind this belief: https://archive.fo/G7wtb (This website is her direct link but I couldn’t get it to load: firepowerministry.org)
My Initial Reaction
When I first heard what this doctor said, I will confess my immediate reaction was offense. Offense that someone would say such bold and (what felt like) hateful things about me because of the season I am going through. Someone who doesn’t know me and is making grand claims about me, my faith, my relationship with God and with demons.
I immediately recognized my offense because that does not come from the Lord and searched my heart. How can I be offended by a lie, if that’s what it is? Offense brings validity to a statement so why do I feel this statement has any validity to it at all? I chose to push the offense aside and read what this doctor said, I also prayed about it. If you read my book Trying to Conceive Through Faith you will know that I didn’t realize there were certain sins in my life until I was willing to hold myself to biblical standards in everything. It takes humbling ourselves to search our heart and to live righteously. I want to live righteously and so I continue to search my heart and mind to make sure the enemy doesn’t have any place in my life.
Offense stops us from searching our hearts. It doesn’t have to be true or false to search our hearts we just have to be willing. Search the Word, talk to other believers and find the peace that God gives us to live this imperfect life in a way that we can best honor our Creator.
This should ALWAYS be our Initial Response
When someone shares a faith based perspective on anything, my first and most important step is to go to the Word. The Bible guides my life, it is my lifeline to the Lord and through those words I live in peace instead of chaos and faith instead of fear and doubting.
With something as complicated and miss-communicated as the spiritual realm it is important to slow and take the time to search the Lord for truth. Just because something feels yucky doesn’t mean we should dismiss it. That being said before we get much further I have lots of reasons and evidence that go against this theory and I will share that below.
What does the Bible say?
When we follow the Word of God we are using wisdom directly from the Lord and it is our job to know our enemy and to know what weapons form against us so we can fight back with truth.
“in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.”2 Corinthians 2:11
For a long time I believed we should just ignore the devil but he isn’t ignoring us. I also have learned to trust what the Bible says completely and if the Bible says to be aware of his schemes otherwise we will be outwitted by satan than I think we should take that direction seriously. Outwitted is not some cute little game he is playing, think back to Eve, a simple question, “Did God really say…?” That’s the impact of being outwitted by satan, everything changes and what was once good is now filled with evil. She ate the fruit and now we are all paying the consequence. Our enemy is crafty and his focus is to outwit us. We have the choice to let him or not.
So now we know we need to be aware of our enemy and we need to know what that source is. The Bible gives us Ephesians 6:12 to clarify this point, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
This verse clarifies that there are spiritual forces of evil and that is where we find our struggle and it can be found in the heavenly realm.
Demons are real. They are fallen angels who chose Satan over God. There are many verses in the Bible about demons but it’s important to know what their position is and in these two verses you will see, they fear the Lord.
“You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.”James 2:19
“The demons begged Jesus, ‘If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.’”Matthew 8:31
So back to having sex with demons in dreams 😒… I don’t see evidence of this in the Bible. There are, however two things that I do see.
1. Demons posses people
“Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him.”Luke 8:30
“Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”Matthew 12:45
“Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.”Acts 19:13-16
“They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” (Also found in Luke 4:31-41)Mark 1:21-27
2. The Nephilim
If you don’t do your own research you probably think the nephilim are a result of demons having sex with people. This is a misinterpretation and it’s another reminder that we need to make sure we read the Word and have pray for discernment. This belief is based off of Genesis chapter 6.
“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”Genesis 6:6-9
This section has led people to believe that fallen angels were sleeping with women and creating the Nephilim saying that the demons (who used to be angels) are the sons of God. But when I read it without external influence it appears that the sons of God are humans. There is no disgrace or anger directed toward angels, just men. They were producing these giants and these mighty men but when God saw the wickedness of man why was there no talk of the demons? So intersexing (is that a word?) is not biblical. I have also found this article to give a more technical explanation as to why this is not true. http://www.refuteit.com/the-sons-of-god-are-not-angels.html
So here we have demon possession and that is real and then we have a misconstrued Bible verse about angels having sex with others but that is not true and somehow with these combined I believe this theory came about. On Dr. Immanuel’s website I read the article about this and she shares that it is known that satanists practice astral sex where they leave they body and go and have sex with whoever they want. If anyone is having sex with demons I’d say it’s them, but again, I don’t know where this comes from in a biblical, fact based reality.
Spirits have been seen in the Bible, specifically there are many examples of angels interacting with people. They speak and deliver messages from God. I think it’s fare to say that demons can do the same thing, delivering evil messages. We even see in Job 4:15 an awareness of a spirit, “A spirit glided past my face, and the hair on my body stood on end.”
Being aware of spiritual influences.
Biblically there are curses and demonic possessions and seeing and speaking to spirits.
We see this influence in 1 Timothy 4:1 which says, “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.”
We can be led astray, away from our faith in the Lord because of deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. So let’s set aside this theory that is based on a misinterpretation of the Word but let’s not dismiss the reality of spiritual influences.
“I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.”1 Corinthians 10:20-21
We all make a choice of what table we sit at. We don’t always recognize we are choosing our enemy instead of our Creator but we are still held accountable for our actions. But it’s clear, we can’t have it both ways. If we are entertaining evil than we know we aren’t at the Lord’s table.
As a born again Christian who believes that Jesus is the only way, truth and life (John 14:6), who has fruit of the Holy Spirit dwelling within me I am confident that the Holy Spirit does not dwell with evil spirits, therefore does not dwell within me (awake or asleep). Here are three verses that I hope bring you peace if you feel vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy.
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”1 John 4:4
“The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”Luke 10:17-18
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”1 Corinthians 6:19–20
God is greater than our enemies.
We have authority in Jesus.
Our bodies are a temple for the Holy Spirit.
Fighting Spiritual Warfare
There is warfare and it is real. We can be influenced by this power. Good and bad influences. This is why we have free will, we have a choice of which way we are pulled. “Get behind me Satan” was said from Jesus to Peter, one of his disciples. Was he possessed? I don’t think so but he was influenced to share an opinion he felt was justified and even righteous and yet Jesus recognized it as something from Satan.
We have been ignorant to the schemes of the enemy. We have allowed his influence in and this influence becomes a place of justification for our sin. Our anger, our jealousy, our fear all come with influences and yet those are not the fruit of the Spirit but fruit of flesh. We don’t see the devil behind it, we just feel what we feel and if we don’t put on the full armor of God we are vulnerable to his schemes. We are vulnerable to missing out on God’s blessings.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”Ephesians 6:10-18
Can Spiritual Things Affect Our Fertility?
The short answer is absolutely yes. My book reveals my lack of faith and self dependence which were outside of the will of God. No one has to have sex with demons to be suffering because of the consequences of sin.
Infertility is stopping future children from being born. This is a big goal of the enemy. The enemy does not want us to be blessed, to be fruitful, to raise children who love the Lord. He wants kill, steal and destroy. What a great place to hold up camp and fight against us.
The ways I see our fertility being attacked is much more tangible and well documented than the theory that was put forth by this doctor.
It is simply this, people in positions of power and authority have been influenced by evil and have partnered with evil to cause destruction to our bodies to intentionally make them infertile, sick and broken.
There are foods, drugs, even our water and air have things that cause infertility. A simple imbalance in our nutritional intake can be the cause for so many health regulated issues. While things like vaccines, medications and foods like soy wreck complete havoc on our bodies. We can wonder why these things are allowed or we can see what is really going on. Your fertility is a target and it’s been targeted every day for your whole life. We eat every day, we drink every day. When we are sick we turn to options to help us get well and even those hurt us in ways that are incredibly hard to heal from.
This is the spiritual attack that I see which has influenced our physical world and it is rampant and evil and horrible.
The anger and resentment that builds up in us during infertility is also apart of the warfare. When we are divided against the Lord and we are entertaining the thoughts that do not line up with God’s Word we are giving the enemy a platform to influence us over God’s influence.
I was able to overcome infertility through faith in God after a 7 year struggle. I had to surrender my ways, my flesh and my opinions and cling to what the Word says. Now I am in secondary infertility. My faith has never been stronger but I am still here. I am currently on a journey with my husband to even greater health and that takes time. I have seen how ingrained the physical attack is on our bodies and honestly I’m shocked more people don’t go through infertility.
We have to claim our place with the Lord and rebuke the plans of the enemy. That means not allowing evil influence into our minds, out hearts and our bodies. When we eat white flour, processed sugar, live in stress and anxiety, drink unfiltered water, and keep our foods in plastic that leaches anti-fertility chemicals into our bodies we are partnering with the plans of the enemy.
Our bodies are a temple for the Holy Spirit. We are called to honor God with the food we eat and things we drink.
Romans 14:20 says, Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God.” Now the context of this verse is important, they are talking about not letting what you eat cause other people to stumble. I still think this is relevant. Should our food destroy the work of God? No way!!!
1 Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” God is not glorified when we put harmful things in our bodies. Our bodies fail when they aren’t taken care of properly. We all desire to have children, that’s why we are trying to overcome infertility. If we aren’t glorifying God in our decisions, who is being glorified?
This whole thing started with someone sharing their beliefs and instead of those beliefs causing confusion I pray you have a whole lot more clarity. We are in a spiritual battle. We should not entertain evil but instead find truth. We should be willing to humble ourselves according to the Word of God and desire to resist the temptation to sin.
If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me. There is a path to healing from infertility. Honoring God will properly align your spiritual walk and physical walk to be on the right path toward conception.
Romans 12:21, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
God, I rebuke the lies of the enemy and I ask Lord for you to heal our hearts. The brokenhearted, the hurting, the angry, the resentful. All the feelings that cloud our clarity to see you here. You Lord are the God of creation and you create life. Our lives are in your hands Lord and today we re-submit and surrender them to you. Help us to see the sin we are entertaining and help us to rebuke it all in the name of Jesus. There is no greater joy, no greater blessing to come before you and know that we are your children asking for the privilege of raising more of your children. Lord we trust your timing. Help us to stay on course with your will. Help us to be set free from the grip of the enemy and to live in truth. Lord I rebuke the attack of the enemy on our lives in the name of Jesus. Shut him down and shut him up Lord. He has no authority here Lord!!! God we praise your Holy and mighty name!Thank you Lord, In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!!! ❤️❤️❤️
